I think you mean Mondeo ;)

And the Mondeo fans think Design For life was tha Manics first single and would no doubt be horrified if they were forced to listen to The Holy Bible (quite possibly the darkest album of the 90s!).

The Mondeo will mainly be at Wembley. Brixton should have a much better atmosphere. Lets just hope they don't play The Everlasting!

By the way, Hello to Mumbo and FCM- hope you hang around and contribute to our friendly discussions!

But the Manics don't really have a specific 'sound'. People think they do, ie 'Desgin for life'/ 'Everlasting' (basically indie with lots of strings and a bombastic chorus). This is bollocks.

GT- overall sound, 'Guns n Roses crossed with the Clash, with a tiny sliver of PE in the lyrics.

GATS- Bon Jovi- esqu rockers (but better obviously), with some of the best guitar solos JDB has ever written. Lyrically quite insular, much self-loathing.

THB - Compressed sheet metal punk, white hot with the perfect mixture of personal/poltical lyrics. Quite diverse- slow/ fast ones. Angry as hell, a scream of definace to everyone and everything- the ultimate in nihilism.

EMG - The biggie. 'Indie' sounding, very 'produced', (check out that Spector wall of sound), polar opposite to THB. Remembered for the 'we wanna get drunk song'.

TIMTTMY - Quite unlike anything before, sonically pure, clean sounding (a deliberate move). Sounds much more self defeated and sad than any other Manic's album. Maybe they had nothing to react against after their first big success?

KYE- a bit of a mish mash, there's no one style so it come across as a collection of songs (some very good, some not so- ranging from torch waving tributes to full on new wave punk with utterly incomprehensible lyrics about 'Calvinst abstractions')

The new songs are also refreshing diverse, There by the Grace is early New Order (don't even mention the tossers that are Depeche Mode), the b-sides were amazing, some taking the elctronic shhen even further, while others were stripped back acoustic-y angst, Door to the River is folky, strings- attached beauty and Forever delayed is a mixture of the washed out synth-y sound they're starting to use crossed with a bit of the old arrogance in the chorus.

I doubt they'll be many Mondeo drivers at Brixton- I'll encounter them all at Wembley the day before.

still think there is a definte manics sound/formula, its not a bad thing (every band has a sound or a formula)

its just that those songs sounded very manics - what you would typically associate with a manics song

?!?!?!?!?!?!

What a very ood thing to say. I can't think of another band from the 90s who created such a diverse range of albums. Compare the rough, dark harrowing sound of the Holy Bible with the lush, string driven sound of This Is My Truth and THEN try to tell me they were created with the same formula!

hello mumbo!!

- i think there is a link with the increase in new members, and people sitting at a computer trying to do assignments!!!

yeah, DiV track is too long, again, think radio edit is shorter

Anther new indiesoc member here, just listerned to the Death in Vages track and thought it was dam good. The best of the three (i'm not a manics fan).
I have never listerned to DIV before this and i was impressed, i dont know what there other stuff is like but i will have to find out.
It does seem very oasis like, but as a oasis fan i dont think thats a bad thing. It's a long song (much like oasis, All Around the World anyone?) but does not seem to long. i did not get board half way through.
Good vocals to from Liam even if he is a twat though. Well thats my two cents.

Hey James, what do you think of Simon's manix track? Do you like the lyrics?

checky!!!:P

(i was just creating the counter argument - it beats doing essays!)

i thought simons song sounded very manics - in the very same way how simon says an oasis song sounds oasis - same formula, etc....thats what i thought of the manics song...same manics formula

liked it tho....just not as much as my choice

i think the DiV song is remixed slightly for the single....could only find the album mix tho!

COME ON CHRISTMAS NUMBER 1 - and if you think its shit, more the reason to buy it and get rid of the shitty pop acts shitty efforts!

I quite like DiV even if I don't like Liam (doesn't him twatting a policeman just make him more of a twat?) so I approached this song with an open mind. And came away very disappointed. It's the most boring song I've ever heard by DiV and Liam's VERY CRAP vocals on it made it even worse. "Shri-eye-ine" My conclusion - (in my opinion) the song is shit. And the Manics rule.

"Why don't you just F*CK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

hiya. i guess ure wondering who the fuck this stranger is writing in the forum. well, im a member of the indie soc, i download the mp3s, and i love death in vegas.:yes:this is not my point by the way. any how, that new DIV song is pretty cool, but doesn't anyone else think it strange that a band like DIV who ud probably would say fit in the genre of alternative indie dance sorta thing, just adopt the style of music of the person doing the collaboration with. for example the liam song (well done liam for twatting that german cop!!) just sounds like an oasis song, and the paul weller one, well...sounds like a paul weller song. dont get me wrong, their great songs, but it just confused me. what a contrast to the contino sessions (if anyone hasn't got it, u must buy it!!)...and please consider aisha as an mp3 choice....the world derseve to hear it!!!!!!
