at least HMV may be a bit of competition for virgin.....bit more of a price war.
I tend to buy from virgin tho.....sometimes its just that little bit cheaper, but only just.
i agree with jazzy, hmv is good for singles, etc -+ you get 10% NUS off, if you cant be arsed to order a v card (although i do have one!)

i also wasn't aware cash converters sold cds. which is a shame cos it was near my house in chelmsford, and if i had a quid for every time i walked
past i could have bought every album i ever wanted from hmv, and probably all the ones i don't want as well!

do you know where the old cinema is?? -carry on walking past it, there is an underpass, go through it, and then cash converts on the left, and about 3
more shops down is mvc!

hmv are the best for new singles but back catalogue is extortionate.
still, their sales are good!

is having an hmv a good thing? the above was said as a joke perhaps those hmv-less among you didn't get.
hmv, for whatever reason, is grossly overpriced, and probably succeeds in selling music because people simply don't realise how overpriced it is.
they were charging 13.99 for the streets album which i bought in sainsburys for 9.99. any classic album you could find at least a couple of quid
cheaper in slipped discs, i bet it will be the same for time. only occasionally, such as after xmas, do they ever have anything that is actually a
decent price. its a great shop to look in, and their oxford street branch is a musical mecca, but they are so overpriced its unbelievable! only v shop
in chelmsford is more expensive, andys is cheaper than hmv generally.
i hope i have saved many of you a good few pennies

Wow! Why did no one tell me they were opening a HMV? This is great news! Although could be bad for Time Records, they may end up closing up if the HMV
is any good.

Yeah they're turning the old Mothercare (next to the Virgin Game Zone, formely V-Shop, formerly Our Price depending on how long you've been in
Colchester for) into a HMV. So gigs, festival tickets and obscure singles will be easier purchases from then on, at least.

Aren't they sposed to be building a HMV in Colchester?? Maybe I heard wrong.
Slipped Disc in Chelmsford?? Many a happy hour spent purusing the shelves there. Got the 3EP's by the Beta Band on Vinyl for £8 once.

further evidence of the greatness of cash convertors: i bought life won't wait by rancid, 'vs' by kings of convenience and the josie and the
pussycats soundtrack there yesterday. see what you kids are missing out on.

I used to go there and come away with about 10 CDs, last 10 or so times I've been in I have been lucky to leave with 1 CD, which me left incredibly
frustrated after sorting through all those muddled up racks for so long!

no!
cash convertors is great. they sell what they buy from people so it's just luck what you find. just two days ago i bought the last new order album,
the first lemonheads album, and some random dinosaur jr album for £4 each and they had some really great stuff like RFTC by rocket from the crypt and
some random sonic youth albums which i already own.
but you all stay away so i can buy the good stuff.

Yeah, they seemed to start phasing out the indie stuff about 6 months ago. I guess it wasn't selling very well. Shame really cos you could get some
britpop stuff quite cheap from time to time.

Cash converters is really shit now. Hardly have any indie at all. Good if you fancy a couple of Spice Girls singles tho ;)

MVC in town isnt too evil!!....got a huge backcatalogue...and while your up that way, cash converters is always worth a look
...TC, have you been to gumbies southend....just behind the bus station....you can really dig out some classics that have [cough] fallen off the back
of a lorry!

time records is ok but a little small.
if you fancy trekking a little further afield, chelmsford has a shop called slipped discs which has a lot but is a little pricey. southend has golden
discs which has cheap lost classics, but you have to really look sometimes. but far and away the best is adrians in wickford, great selection, loads
to look through, every single and album imaginable, and it advertises in national press.
all are on the rail line, chelmsford direct or wickford, southend via shenfield. if u wanna go and need to know exactly where they are, stick up a
post or u2u me

If you really can't stand virgin then your best bet is Time Records (map) but
Virgin does unfortunately normally have the best selection if you're looking for CDs. Time does however stock indie 7"s and although their Indie
singles are often more expensive than Virgin you do often get a free badge or poster or two from them.
