it is, but i reckon we should all support it anyway
comic releif may be stupid and irritating but it does raise some money...altho not as much as it could do if it was run better and certain
organisations were more generous....

i was basically referring to all the companies that make comic releif products
but more importantly the retail outlets that sell them
eg Mr Kiplings Red Nose Cakes which just take the mick to be honest
cost in campus shop; £1,10
amount going to charity 5p
i know companies can't produce things for free in our capitalist system but thats just funny
and all you'd get is two overwrapped cakes
why not just give £1.10 to charity?

because your not buying the cake because that is your way of donating (like when you buy a nose) - your buying a cake cause u are hungry, and you will
be tempted to buy that cake cause some money is going to charity
every little helps

sadly cake is not one of the essentials of life
we could do without cake
especially nasty corporate chemical mr kiplings cakes
5p is worthless, to raise a million ..generally considered to be a substantial amount you'd need to sell 5 million boxes of cakes in just over a
fortnight.....and that ain't gonna happen
its all a way for the companies to exploit our guilt, afterall everyone knows that guilty people turn to cake

ok john. if no-one bought the cakes because mr kipling is a facist money grabbing pig-dog how much money would go to charity? hmm, none.
if some people buy the cakes for whatever reason they feel they might need a cake, how much money will go to charity? more than none.
which is the preferable option?
anyway. i'm sure mr kipling will end up donating more than you or anyone else on the board for that matter so i don't see your problem.
plus you can't do maths.

sorry john , i forget food isnt an esstential!!!
your fogetting the fact that most people dont have their ethical view so far up their own arse, that they still buy cake.
people buy cakes
fact
so, as sam said
whats better
1. people buying mr kipling cakes. mr kipling giving money to charity
2. people buying mr kipling cakes, mr kipping not giving money to charity
its better than nothing
sometimes you are so short sighted!!!
and anyway
mr kipling makes exterimly good cakes!!

james, i think you'll find that mr kipling actually makes exceedingly good cakes rather than mere extremely good cakes.

ok. i was going to argue a lot here, but then i realised i'm having an argument about the morality of buying cakes, so f*ck it. lets just all
agree with john. i'm going to start a picket line outside the campus shop (and maybe tescos) tomorrow and stop any of the nazi cake-buying public
funding mr kipling's evil empire.

simon - is cake a food
yes
is food essetial
yes
therefore so is cake
i can do mathematical proof if you want - or do we all live on bread and water now???
yes - john, its not trying to get people to buy cake instead of giving to charity, its just a jesture of good will!! - will hopefully intice people
who would not usually give money to charity, at all, to perhaps to buy the kippling brand, so that extra 5p goes to charity
is that really such a bad thing

i'll make an extra dontation to charity next time i go out
i'll but a few extra pints at the SU
YES - no more excuses needed, the SU is a registered charity - so im acutally fund raising/giving to charity with every pint i buy
