STAR TREK MAY BE SAVED AFTERALL!!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4312767.stm

This is truly fantastic. Trekkers all over the world are currently battling to keep the current series of Enterprise on our screens, after disappointing ratings got the series axed. A fund has been set up, where some donors from space programmes have contributed. 3million has thus far been raised, so the programme can go on into another series. Only last month there was a protest in Israel to save the programme.

Star Trekâ??s the most essential programme on TV and has been a conduit for Gene Roddenburyâ??s vision for the betterment of humanity and the exploration of space. Undeniably people feel passionate about keeping it alive. Itâ??s so much more than a show about aliens, with its many layers mirroring real life. Letâ??s remember it had the first ever inter racial kiss on TV with Uhura and Kirk, which caused a stir. It also presented a Russian, Chinese and woman all in an equal light, which had never been done in that time.

Martin Luther King himself was a fan, who persuaded the actress who played Uhura to continue her role. It was the only show he let his kids watch. I would prefer they get rid of enterprise completely and make a new one, cos it werenâ??t that good. But theyâ??ll need a lot of latinum to do that, more than a Ferengi's purse contains.

meh its no DS9, but i guess it better than nothing

Yeah star trek is awesome, hell the BNP and NF both had it on their list of programs to ban, so if you want to get rid of star trek then you must be some kind of nazi.....(this makes sense in theory)...

It's all about the bottom line. Increasingly, shows that the networks aren't too sure about are being saved and even revived after being cut because so much money is being made from DVD sales. Star Trek strikes me as something that might just be doing well in such an arena, in every incarnation, so I'd be surprised if this one really dies a death. Money money money.

“I feel that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. That's the two categories. The horrible are like, I don't know, terminal cases, you know, and blind people, crippled. I don't know how they get through life. It's amazing to me. And the miserable is everyone else. So you should be thankful that you're miserable, because that's very lucky, to be miserable.”

Precisely, the amount of money a fan chucks at buying fake vulcan ears, badges, uniforms, phasers etc. Heck its more than a TV show it's ingrained in popular culture, more so than any show ever. Look how fan power resurrected Doctor Who, it can be done. I've always wanted to go to that star trek bar in London, me and my mates always talk about. I've never even been to a convention .

I compensate for it with having riveting conversations on latest updates in transwarp theories, with fellow friends. I hope i'm not coming across as some nerd here.

HA! Now it's properly cancelled now. I hope the last episode has Archer leaping out of his stupid gay body and back into that of supercool Dr Samuel Beckett. With Al too. Because he's cool... motherfucker.

Doctor Who kicks Star Trek's ARSE.

I often go to sleep with pyjama bottoms, socks and a t-shirt on. When I awake I am naked. This is a popular phenomenon, known in scientific circles as theft. My family members steal my clothes in the night and sell them down the market. I often walk to work and see kids wearing the clothes that only the night before I was sleeping in. It is a disturbing development.

The doctor who theme is a lot better than anything Shatner ever sang.

What's wrong with Billie Piper? She's already proved she can act, plus the chemistry between her and Ecclestone is meant to be top notch.

John, you're just silly if you think Star Trek is better.

Christ, what is wrong with people? How can anyone have any respect for Shatners' 'music'? It really makes me angry!

Yeah, but you can listen to these top quality musicians on their own stuff, and not have to bother with Shat himself.

That Common People cover is truley abysmal.

Incroyable, messieur. I'd have to disagree, so does not have the depth and wide scale application to human affairs as Star Trek.

But Star Trek is incredibly dull, from TNG onwards, the original series was the best.

The beauty of Dr Who is it's lack of limitations- it could be anything from week to week, it could be rubbish, it could be amazing, it could be exciting, it could be tragic etc etc.
