your indie disco top ten

drowned in sound have started a discussion about indie disco top 10s. can't say i agree with many of them except the guy who lists party hard by andrew wk 10 times.

what would you play? ten songs to keep the dancefloor buzzing.

go!

oh, and here's a link: http://www.drownedinsound.com/content/view/1060672

and for the record, given a 10 song slot tonight at a discerning establishment i would probably play:

1. the strokes- juicebox
2. the rakes- 22 grand job
3. test icicles- circle, square, triangle
4. dfa 1979- romantic rights
5. le tigre- deceptakon
6. blondie hanging on the telephone
7. art brut- my little brother
8. franz ferdinand- michael
9. bloc party- banquet
10. the killers- mr brightside

keep the tempo high. songs everyone knows (more or less), finish on a winner. bang bang bang. there's half an hour of this week's milkshake sitting right there.

in the meantime, come to v bar tonight. i won't play any of those songs.

my actual indie disco setlist from last night... well, the ones i remember playing anyway:

death from above 1979- blood on our hands
80s matchbox b-line disaster- celebrate your mother
the cramps- human fly
the raveonettes- love in a trashcan
modest mouse- float on
razorlight- in the morning
talking heads- once in a lifetime
the slits- heard it through the grapevine
the yeah yeah yeahs- date with the night
le tigre- decepticon
blondie- hanging on the telephone
sahara hotnights- rockaway beach
the rakes- 22 grand job
the strokes- juicebox
the caesars- jerk it out
primal scream- country girl
beck- devil's haircut
the white stripes- seven nation army
bloc party- helicopter
the kinks- you really got me
the sonics- money (that's what i want)
the hives- hate to say i told you so
the clash- brand new cadillac
the zutons- you will, you won't

there is infinite pleasure to be had in full dancefloors for sahara hotnights and the sonics. makes me think i did something right.

Going back a bit...

Crash - The Primitives
Keep on Keeping On - The Redskins
Reward - The Teardrop Explodes
When You're Young - The Jam
Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode
Bedsitter - Soft Cell
Little Bitch - The Specials
What She Said - The Smiths
Let's Make This Precious - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Walls Come Tumbling Down - The Style Council

I feel that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. That's the two categories. The horrible are like, I don't know, terminal cases, you know, and blind people, crippled. I don't know how they get through life. It's amazing to me. And the miserable is everyone else. So you should be thankful that you're miserable, because that's very lucky, to be miserable.
